Sorry about not posting anything yesterday or this morning. I didn’t have access to a free connection. Found one this morning at McDonalds but it was slower than old people doing the nasty so I decided to write while we travel today and post when we get to Galen’s tonite.
Correction: The mileage stated in Tuesday’s blog was incorrect, the correct mileage was 630 miles, And now for Wednesday’s word, Yucca. In bloom they are beautiful, not so nice without, kind of yucca. Man I crack me up. We keep looking for some tumbleweed but none so far and nothing I would call “real” cacti. Didn’t realize until we hit the road this morning that we come up in the middle of New Mexico so that cut out a bunch of miles
So, in case anybody wonders, yes, I snore, according to dad, I REALLY snore. How would I know, although I have been known to wake myself up when I doze off and start snoring. What can I say? Good news is that I don’t stop breathing which is something I have always wondered.
| Started out early today, Wednesday, and about two hours on the road we got a major flat tire, blown to hell flat tire. OK I know what to do, first unload all the crap in the trunk and believe me, it’s packed, pull out the spare and the jack, oh look, the damn jack is broken, well now that’s just dandy. Daddy calls his towing, well, well, well, it appears that Susan has cancelled his auto insurance and failed to let him know. While he takes care of getting it reinstated I say, no worries, I’ll call my towing, oh wait, my paperwork is at Galen’s. Ah, a good Samaritan, he says he’ll help, oh damn, his jack is back a this house, off he goes to get it while we wait. Fake tire on, off we go to Wally World that just happens to be a hop skip and a jump down the road. New tire on and we’re on the road again, playin music with my friends, I just can’t wait to get on the road again. Still no jack but dad says we won’t get another flat so it’s no problem. Finally, real cacti, everywhere, I am a happy camper. It would be a little better if we could stop but we know that’s out of the question. Eat, gas, pee, sleep, those are the only reasons we stop, oh and fixing a flat. We made it to Blythe and stopped a little earlier today, had time to relax, out of the car and watch some TV. Dad yelled at me several times during the night to stop snoring, I only remember one. It’s all good. Thursday and we’re on the road early after breakfast at Mickey D’s. The coffee is still too damn hot, I think I might have sued too. Need to stop at DMV to renew my motorcycle permit, first one had every seat full, next one had a line going all the way outside, that’s not happening, oh well, no problem. Must be a reason I need to retake the written test. Flat, lava, sandstone, boring, but I don’t care, we’ll be to Galen’s by dinner time and I’ll head home tonite. Making great time, San Berdu, Mojave, below sea livel, Tehachapi, 4,000 ft, which is still greenish, Bakersfield, Interstate 5, whoopee, just a few hours to go, we’re almost there, what’s that noise, another flat, oh wonderful. Actually bent the rim this time. Oh, wait, no jack, just great. I call my towing because dad can’t find his information, wait for almost two hours, finally they come, it’s a kid in his car with a floor jack. OK too far to Wally World this time and they don’t have rims so the kid says, we sell tires and rims, follow me. Not much of a choice, OK, back we go. It’s a funky little shop with two guys working, one being the kid who changed the flat. We are finally on the road about an hour short of when we should have been to Galen’s. I am now also the queen of “There must be a reason and it could be worse.” Hopefully we’ll be there with no other problems. The crop dusters are flying, I think that would be a fun job. it’s starting to turn a little brown. We moved to California 43 years ago and until recently, I thought “The golden hills of California” meant the way everything turned brown in the summer and I thought how stupid, it’s not golden it’s ugly brown. OK, so I’m blond, now I get it. I’m tuned into every strange noise coming from the road. We’re here, safe and sound, I’m tired and looking forward to going home tomorrow but not to the drive. |
